How does it work?

All stock is purchased from our community. We buy pre-loved clothing and accessories for all genders.

1. Prepare your items

We buy everything in our stores from our community, items need to be:

  • freshly laundered (no need to iron)
  • stain/hole/odour free
  • in season (to suit to weather and trends)
  • folded, not on hangers

2. Choose your store

Close to our Brunswick or Northcote stores? Book to sell below.

Note that we don't buy in our last half hour of trade.

Regional or interstate? Sell-by-post.

3. Hand us your pieces

Because of our 'buy upfront' model, we are very considered in our buying - we only take what we know we can sell quickly. We see so many items in a day, we do say no more than we say yes!

Once we have selected items we know our customers will love, we do thorough pricing research to determine our resale price.

4. Choose cash/store credit

Upon reviewing our pricing and offer, you choose:

  • 30% of the total value of your items as cash (paid via direct deposit)
  • 50% as store credit

    *First time sellers need to provide photo ID, email and phone number. To be paid via direct deposit you will also need your BSB and Account Numbers.

We prioritise clothing, shoes and accessories that are:

In-Season

  • We buy styles our community want to buy and wear now - this takes into account weather and trends.

  • New stock is processed and on the shop floor for sale within hours.


Natural Fabrics & Fibres

  • We love well-made items of fabrics like cotton, silk, linen and wool, because their lifecycle is significantly longer.

  • When they do come to the end of their life, they are more easily recycled, repurposed or re-engineered.


Local, ethical & sustainable brands & designers

  • We’re in the business of sustainability, so we love to champion brands with a conscious production method, as well as locally made Melbourne, Australian and New Zealand brands

No Thank You Brands

Brands We Don’t Accept

Broken, dirty or damaged items

  • Nobody wants to browse damaged or dirty pieces, please treat stains and wash items before you bring them in.

  • We sometimes buy pieces that have been well mended.

Office or Corporate Wear

  • Corporate styles don't sell well for us so we're likely to say no thank you. If you’re looking to rehome corporate wear, we recommend trying Fitted For Work.

Formal Wear

  • Traditional formal wear like ball gowns and tuxedos are a no thank you but we would love to see your less traditional party dresses and outfits for a special occasion.

Fast Fashion

  • It’s a matter of quality, ethics and sustainability. Most fast fashion is not made to last and is often synthetic - this translates to low value and desireability for resale. In addition, it's harder to recycle at the end of its life.

Selling FAQs

How do you price my items?

We use multiple resources to help us price our stock. We are always conscious of trends, quality, desirability and condition.

How and when will I get paid?

We buy outright, so you will receive your store credit instantly or your cash (direct deposit) within a few days of selling to us.

How do I know what you will buy?

You won’t know for sure until we’ve looked through your items. Our buyers are always happy to talk you through what we are looking for. We can’t buy everything but we are always happy to recommend like-minded businesses.

How long will it take you to look at my items?

We’re quick and generally take about 20 mins. We may take a little longer if you have lots of items or pieces that need more research. When you sign in, one of our buyers will give you an estimated wait time. We ask that you collect on the same day that you drop off.

If you’re visiting on a weekend we recommend booking an appointment as Saturdays and Sundays are busy.

Can I bring in just one or two things?

Yes! There is no minimum amount of pieces to sell to us.

Does store credit expire?

Our store credit does not expire and you can use it at any Mutual Muse store or when shopping online.

Why do you need my photo ID?

This is a legal requirement when dealing in second hand goods. We will only ask to see your photo ID the first time you sell to us.
